NA meetings : where addicts helping addicts

Narcotics Anonymous is one of the best known non profit organisations where man and women register to recover from their addiction. What makes NA meetings unique and well known is that they are really anonymous.

NA encourages abstinence

Narcotics Anonymous encourages its members to abstain from all drugs including alcohol. NA members believe that complete and continuous abstinence provides the best foundation for recovery and personal growth.

Narcotics Anonymous however, takes no stand for addictions like use of caffeine, nicotine, or sugar.

Main concern at NA:

The primary concern provided by Narcotics Anonymous is the local meetings (held weekly), according to a series of 12 principles common to the entire organisation.

OPEN MEETINGS: Meetings, which take place in rooms rented from public, religious or other organisations, may be ‘open to all’, meaning anyone can attend it.

CLOSE MEETINGS: For addicts to get away from their addiction practices by following 12 steps, tradition or customs designed by NA.

Is NA really effective?

NA groups are really effective because here each member is active and have the same desire to stop their addiction; each member has a different potential and different level of determination. This encourages other members of NA to make a strong desire and motivate them to change their lives and personalities and get out of it.

12 steps at NA :

The 12 steps of NA are great and have real impact on the NA members. Go through them and learn what these 12 steps are, which can also help you to take a NA meeting soon.

  • Step 1

We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction — that our lives had become unmanageable.

  • Step 2

We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

  • Step 3

We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of god as we understood him.

  • Step 4

We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

  • Step 5

We admitted to god, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

  • Step 6

We were entirely ready to have god remove all these defects of character.

  • Step 7

We humbly asked him to remove our shortcomings.

  • Step 8

We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

  • Step 9

We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

  • Step 10

We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

  • Step 11

We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with god as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.

  • Step 12

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
